July 17th


1867: Harvard School of Dental Medicine is established in Boston. Hundreds of Harvard students rush to sign up, so they can join a profession where they can talk to people who won't be able to talk back.


1938: Douglas Corrigan takes off from Brooklyn to fly the "wrong way" to Ireland and becomes known as "Wrong Way" Corrigan... and then is immediately named CEO of United Airlines.


1973: King Mohammed Zahir Shah of Afghanistan is deposed by his cousin Mohammed Daoud Khan while in Italy undergoing eye surgery... and to make it worse, the new Afghan government refuses to cover his co-pay.
