1845: The United States Naval Academy opens with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors. It was ironic because none of them could swim.


1938: The Munich Agreement cedes the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany... or as Barack Obama calls it: "The World's Finest Hour."


1970: A national crisis hits Canada when Quebec Vice-Premier Pierre Laporte becomes the second statesman kidnapped by members of the FLQ terrorist group. It was a crisis because he was the guy in charge of the hockey tickets.
