September 10th


1419: John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy, is assassinated... so it turns out he probably should have been a little more afraid.


1608: John Smith is elected council president of Jamestown, Virginia.... an astounding feat since in 1608, the name "John Smith" was considered to be a bit "ethnic."



1813: The United States defeats the British Fleet at the Battle of Lake Erie. But the British thought they had won when they realized they could actually leave.
