1884: The United Kingdom ends its policy of penal transportation to Australia. But Australia is still used as a punishment as criminals are now forced to watch movies starring Paul Hogan.


1948: Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands abdicates for health reasons... and because you don't have to been Queen to get legal pot in the Netherlands.


1957: Orval Faubus, governor of Arkansas, calls out the National Guard to prevent African American students from enrolling in Central High School. Now, the best way to keep kids from going to high school is to ban cell phones and iPods.
