1635: Founder of Rhode Island Roger Williams is banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony as a religious dissident after he refuses to say "happy holidays" instead of "merry Christmas" at the local trading post.



1967: Ernesto "Che" Guevara is executed for attempting to incite a revolution in Bolivia... and trying to get people to pay $35.99 for t-shirts with his face on them.


1981: Capital punishment is abolished in France... except for people who don't teach their toddler children how to smoke and drink wine.
