July 4th

1803: The Louisiana Purchase is announced to an American people starving for Cajun cookin'.

1886: The people of France offer the Statue of Liberty to the people of the United States... but the Americans are disappointed when we learn it's not filled with sweet cream.

1966: President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into United States law. Ironically, the event is kept secret for the next 25 years.
