Royals Roiled
Student protesters attacked the car carrying Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla last night. Charles was frightened, but British police say Camilla's teeth would have kept the royal couple safe from any onslaught.



Madden's New Focus
Since he retired from broadcasting, John Madden has been spending more time brainstorming with the designers who create 'Madden NFL.' That explains why the video game now includes three-hour breaks for tailgating and naps.



Hokies Fined?
The federal government may fine Virginia Tech for the university's slow response to the 2007 campus shootings. But Virginia Tech insists that it moved as swiftly as possible to protect its football team, and that no one really cares about anyone else.



Mayor vs. Unions
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa attacked the teachers unions last night, saying they have blocked all his efforts for education reform. He also complained that sometimes, they send their campaign contributions to his office a little late.



Obama vs. Taxes
President Obama is now considering reducing corporate tax rates. That, and the fact that he's installing a Polo field behind the White House have people thinking Obama is moving a little to the right.

1541: Thomas Culpeper and Francis Dereham are executed for having affairs with Catherine Howard, Queen of England and wife of Henry VIII. Today, they would be given their own reality show.


1935: The Heisman Trophy is awarded to halfback Jay Berwanger of the University of Chicago. Today, nobody at the University of Chicago even knows what the Heisman Trophy is.
